Things Seen

It was the mud that I saw first. The rich, fertile and deeply furrowed mud. Then I saw the water; filling the furrows – and the sky was in it! Beautiful lines of blue.

Directional.

Strong.

Purposeful.

I was drawn to those lines – and the light upon the water. There was so much life and energy. There was also preparation in the marks; the promise of what was to grow in the field. It was rich, full and ready for purpose.

The day was beautiful, there was so much clarity in the air. So much beauty. So much life.

The sky was blue but with clouds – full and reaching low; touching the land. The energy of the heavens touching earth. Kissing it with beauty but at the same time holding a threat of icy menace! Yes there was energy out there, it was a stunning day and I was touched in my spirit – Inspired.

So I shall cover the canvas with blue and then slather it with the richest of browns, then I shall cut into it with lines of purpose. Then the light will fall. Yes, the light will fall.

Then I shall whip up a storm and the sky will come down – yes, and the light will come down…

The Light of the world came down to this earth and touched us with life and hope and beauty. That is what I have to paint!

Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace.”
