God’s Paint Pallet

The Way into the Holiest

During my journey in the pursuit of painting light, I had at one point asked God what He would do if He only had paint to work with. I then invited the Holy Spirit to come and paint with me.
This He did and the painting above is the result.

As I considered this painting, I wondered if I might tweak a few things, add a pink glaze maybe? but was immediately struck by the thought,
‘I did this painting with the Holy Spirit – who am I to judge it so?’

This was God’s response to me;
‘Petrina, I created you to be an artist, you have a mind to think with; you have the ability to make creative decisions and you know how to handle paint; if you think it needs a pink glaze, go ahead, apply it. I chose to work with you, and through you. We work together – this is partnership!’

So I did; I applied some pink! Strangely it was this pink glaze that bought about the effect of the heavenly hosts around the inner light – the outer glow.

On sharing this with my church friends I began to see church as a paint palette. We are all separate colours; individually crafted for purpose. But together we make a beautiful picture.

Later whilst considering my palette I realised that it is not a clean generic pallet with clearly defined blobs of pure colour; NO, it is frankly a mess!
But when I dip my brush into it; I know exactly where everything is and just what I need.
The results do not reflect the palette!

However, on a serious note, if colours have become dirty or spoilt, dried up or hard; they are not useful; and we have to have a clean up!

Therefore we should keep short accounts of ourselves before God, guarding against hardness of heart and ensuring we have clean hands and a pure heart.

Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Psalm 24:3

So let us make sure we are ready for purpose.

‘Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. Create in me a clean heart oh God and renew a right spirit in me. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.
Psalm 51:2
